How to make feed for rabbits

Food directly affects the quality of meat, wool, rabbits, growth activity and much more. The problem is that it is difficult to provide these animals with a truly balanced diet on simple, familiar to all food. That is why the feed is increasingly used by breeders to feed their animals. Compound feed for rabbits simplifies the preparation of the daily diet, improves the meat and fur indicators of the animal.

What is compound feed?

Compound feed for rabbits or granulated feed is a mixture of plant materials with all sorts of additives in the form of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients necessary for normal growth and development of the animal. Manufacturing technology of such feed is quite simple. First, the components are cut, crushed as small as possible, then mixed with other components, pressed and cut into small granules, which will be convenient to eat rabbits.

Feed can be of different types. The first thing to note is that there are three types of feed - three main groups that need to be guided primarily when buying.

  1. Complete feed - given to rabbits in its purest form. It has all the necessary substances, so no additional additives are needed. When feeding an animal with such feed, it is not necessary to give it either greens or silage, or even premixes. However, the price for this type of feed is high and not all breeders can afford it.
  2. Concentrated feed is given only in a mixture with other feed (greens, grain, silage, etc.).
  3. Feed additives are composed of, above all, an abundance of vitamins, minerals, proteins. They are an ideal feed additive if the breeder feeds the animal with simple foods like greens and grains.

In addition, feed for rabbits also comes in different species depending on the age and characteristics of the animal:

  • young rabbits;
  • adults;
  • for meat breeds;
  • for fur species;
  • for lactating and pregnant females;
  • for males during mating;
  • universal.

The difference of all these subspecies in the composition, which is adjusted by the developers, depending on what particular substances are necessary for the animal at a particular stage of life.

To use compound feed for rabbits is very profitable. This type of feeding has many advantages over traditional food.

  • In contrast to feeding with grain and hay-bags, with mixed feed, you can easily and without problems calculate the daily rate per king. Usually, all these norms, depending on the age, breed and characteristics of the animal, are described directly on the package with food.
  • Simplified feeding procedure. All that is required from the breeder, in time to fill the animals with a measured portion of feed.
  • As feeding is simplified, the time to “maintain” animals is reduced.
  • Provides excellent rabbit productivity. If you choose the right food, you can achieve the best indicators of quality, quantity of meat and condition of the coat after slaughter.

    With feed you can simply and without problems calculate the daily rate per king

  • Rabbits when feeding with mixed feed rarely get sick, as this is a sterile feed, there are no ticks and no harmful microorganisms that can start in the grass or be found in a not-so-fresh mash. All that is needed is to properly store the feed.
  • Under the storage of feed need less space than under the storage of dried greens, hay, cereals and root crops for mash, which are usually fed to animals.

As for the shortcomings, there is only one problem - the price. Compound feed for rabbits is expensive, especially if you buy brand-name, high-quality. It is much cheaper to feed pets with simple food. Although not very expensive alternative can be an independent production of compound feed.

What do they make compound feed for rabbits?

In nature, rabbits feed on hay, greens, roots, fruits, and grain. It is they that form the basis of any compound feeds for rabbits. However, some of the components are processed before use, as fresh, they have a high percentage of juices in the composition.

It should be noted that, depending on the person for whom the feed is made, there may be more (less) certain substances. So, for example, uterine females and young animals consume primarily a large amount of cereals (barley, wheat, corn, oats). In the feed for these groups of grain at least 30%, and even more.

If animals do not walk, there may be a lot of grass meal in the composition (up to 50%). Also, normal yeast feed is always supplemented with yeast, fish meal (or meat, meat and bone), oilcake, meal, bran, vitamins and minerals (calcium and phosphorus are especially important for rabbits).

Therefore, the preparation of feed for rabbits at home can be difficult not only because of the correct calculation of the proportions and combinations of components, but also because of their processing.

If the farm has a granulator (machine for the manufacture of animal feed), then there will be no problems with the process, you just need to mix the components correctly. Below are some popular recipes for compound feed for rabbits with your own hands.

How much feed do rabbits eat per day? On the original packaging is usually indicated the dosage, but with a homemade food the situation is different. The portion and its size depend on the size of the animal, its breed, position (pregnancy, mating period, feeding, etc.). But there are average indicators by which you can navigate.

Do not forget that the compound feed for rabbits is a dry food. When feeding the animal, it is necessary to provide individuals with unhindered access to water throughout the day and night. Water changes 2-3 times a day, since rabbits on the "dry ration" usually drink a lot. For the convenience of the breeder, the water is poured into large nipple drinkers. In them, it does not deteriorate and stays fresh longer, which means it can be changed once a day.
